Why sh.. 2009. 7. 1. 개조심(로알드 달) 로알드 달의 첫 단편집이다. 기막힌 반전과 재미를 이미 다른 작품에서 보아왔기에 "여기쯤에 반전이 나오겠지" 또는 "이것 말고 또 다른 뭔가가 있을거야"라는 생각으로 글을 읽게 되었다. 역시, 예상대로 그의 상상력은 기발하고 독특하다. "개조심"이란 단편에서의 기발함은 마지막 문장을 읽고나서 약 10초가 흐른뒤에 "앗"하는 느낌이 올 정도로 놀라웠다. "어느 늙디늙은 남자의 죽음" 단편은 2차 세계대전 당시 영국 공군의 조종사로 복무했던 경험이 글속에 고스란히 묻어있다. 세밀한 비행조종술, 전투실황, 다급함등을 느낄 수 있어 마치 내가 조종관을 진 조종사가 된 기분이 들었다. 로알드 달의 작품은 대부분 잔인한 면이 녹아있다. 예를 들면 이런식이다.
